In the historic centre of Cascais, next to Avenida da República, two colourful pyramid-shaped structures stand out from the greenery. The Casa das Histórias Paula Rego was born as a disruptive element in the urban landscape.
"It is never too much to contrast the abstract and artificial reality of contemporary art with the hard, everyday reality that surrounds us", explains the architect Eduardo Souto Moura.
Therefore, a building with an area of over 2 thousand m² was created, which considered the existing elements — the land and the trees. It was the trees that dictated the exterior material: red-pigmented concrete to contrast with the green of the forest.
