More about the Braga Municipal Stadium
The project for the stadium structure, which consumed more than 50,000 hours of work exclusively in Civil Engineering, is characterised by the innovative technical solutions developed, the technology employed, especially in terms of testing and roofing, and the rigorous planning of the construction work.
According to Rui Furtado: "it is gratifying to reach the end of the project and realise that to speak about the Stadium structure is also to speak about its Architecture. And to explain its Architecture is to tell the story of the problems that Engineering had to face". A source of pride for the Engineer, more so since the Stadium project was nominated as a national candidate for two international awards in the field of engineering - the FIB (Federation Internationale du Béton) and IABSE (International Association for Bridges and Structural Engineering) awards.
It is worth remembering that the Braga Municipal Stadium was distinguished in 2004 with the Secil Architecture Award, a project designed by the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura. This is the first time the same work has been awarded in both categories of the Secil Award, which highlights its complexity and excellence.
