About Alqueva Dam

Located on the Guadiana River, near the village of Alqueva, the dam concentrates an immensity of water, surrounded by an enviable nature.

 

The Alqueva Dam construction objectives were related to electricity production for the creation of an irrigation system which would cover the whole of the Alentejo region.

 

Therefore, this Secil project boosted the development of agriculture by increasing the number of jobs and reducing, respectively, the problem of land abandonment.
